Prescription Glasses Online - Whats the real value?

Deciding to set up my online prescription glasses business was not an easy task. Could I really create and build a company providing quality eyewear at a fraction of the cost of the high street and not compromise on quality in any way? I wasn't sure but was determined to find out.

I called a number of optical labs in the UK - these are companies that maufacture prescription glasses for a living, they supply all of the independant opticians in the UK with glasses when someone orders from their shop.

I was told that it costs only 8.00 pounds to make a pair of glasses - this includes the frame and the lenses!! I could not believe how much of a profit the high street oprician was making. I realised immediatley that the UK consumer was being totally ripped off. This, by the way was confirmed by the labs that I had spoken to but they were all to scared to make it generally known for fear of loosing their business. It was a clear monopoly and one that needed breaking up a little.
